The 411 on the Biggest Pop-Up Picnic in Jamaica

Come April 16th don’t be surprised when you find hoards of Kingstonians/Kingstoners descend across town in their all white best. Why you may ask? Come closer. No really, come closer. It’s a secret. A pop-up picnic that takes place in a secret location and on April 16th, Le Diner en Blanc returns to Jamaica.

What is the Le Diner en Blanc you ask? Here are 10 things you need to know:

1.      It’s the world’s largest pop-up picnic event that takes place on all continents except Antarctica of course for obvious reasons.

2.      All attendees are expected to bring their own tables, chairs, linens and food and clean up afterwards.

3.      Invitations to Le Diner takes place in three phases:

a.       Phase 1 – Guests from the previous years are invited.

b.      Phase 2 – Guests from the previous years are allowed to invite a new member.

c.       Phase 3 – People registered to the waiting list

4.      There’s a competition for the table with the best centerpiece called the ‘Best Dressed Table’.

5.      Le Diner en Blanc was first held in France, the summer of 1988 by Francois Pasquier. He invited a few friends and told them all to wear white so they could find each other easily.

6.    Guests meet at an assigned departure location and then are escorted by Diner en Blanc volunteers to a secret location.  Last year’s secret location was Emancipation Park. Wonder where it'll be this year?

7.      It’s a celebration of fashion. All guests are required to wear a glamourous all-white outfit so get creative!

8.      It’s a celebration of food. Indulge in all things culinary – fine food, fine wine and do we even need to mention Champagne?

9.     It’s a celebration of friendship. Who else are we going to share all this food and culture with?

10.     The 2016 Le Diner en Blanc is coming back on April 16th!
