The Ministry of Health yesterday hosted a Zika Virus Press briefing at the Ministry's Grenada Way Office. Attended by Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Tufton, Permanent Secretary,
Dr. Kevin Harvey, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Winston De La Haye and PAHO/WHO Representative in Jamaica, Dr. Noreen Jack.
Tufton thanked members of the media for their continued support and partnership which has ensured that the Ministry's message to empower Jamaicans to secure their health have had a wide reach.
Incase you missed it on Twitter, Periscope or the nightly news here's how the Ministry of Health continues to respond to the expected increase in both the transmission and spread of the Zika Virus:
The numbers reported represents only the “tip of the iceberg”. It must be noted that although 50 to 70% of Jamaican will be infected in this first outbreak, only 1 out of 5 of the infected persons will have symptoms and only some will be sick enough to go the doctor and some will have their blood taken in order to confirm the case. Of the persons who are ill only about 1 in 1,000 of persons with will have very severe symptoms such as the neurological symptoms of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
