Vibes cyah done! Sts. Peter and Paul Preparatory School made it clear that they had the most school spirit during the Vibes Check hour. Their vibrant demonstration won them $50,000 from Burger King.
The BKxYMCA Prep & Primary Schools' Swimming Championships, proudly sponsored by Burger King since 2001, concluded another successful event at the National Stadium on May 3rd, 2024. Recognized as Jamaica's largest under-12 swimming competition, the championships showcased exceptional talent from schools across the island, reinforcing its role as a pillar of youth sports development.
Hillel Academy emerged as the overall champions of this historic meet, securing the top spot with an impressive total of 243 points. Their standout performances highlighted the event, demonstrating remarkable skill and determination in both the boys' category and the overall competition.
In the girls' category, St Hugh's Preparatory School continued their dominant streak, leading with 113 points and extending their consecutive meet victories in 2024 to five. The meet also featured spectacular record-breaking efforts from Kai Lawson, a Grade 6 student at St. Hugh's, who set new benchmarks in the 9-10 age group for the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke.
Mona Preparatory School and Sts. Peter and Paul Preparatory School were closely matched, each tallying 159 points to tie for second place overall. Despite challenging weather conditions, the competitive spirit and enthusiasm of the young swimmers remained undiminished.
A highlight of the event was the 'Vibes Check' award, a special recognition featuring Jennifer “JennyJenny” Small by Burger King to honour the school that exemplified the most team spirit. Sts. Peter and Paul Preparatory School won this award, bringing home the coveted $50,000 prize for their lively and enthusiastic participation, greatly contributing to the event's atmosphere.
Rashai Graham, Burger King's Assistant Brand Manager, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership, "Burger King has supported the BK Swim Meet for over two decades.
