Mom, I Love You

All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.

With May 14 drawing closer, the rush is on to find that perfect gift to celebrate our love and appreciation for the women who gave us life, our mothers. The frustration of finding that perfect gift to show just how much we love her, coupled with the financial anxiety that that very important purchase might bring might be a lot for many. So, how about you do it different this year and give an intangible Mother’s Day gift?

Here are five gift ideas that your mom will truly love:

1. A Visit

As children get older and life takes over, there is less and less time to spend just talking and laughing with mom, and as she gets older, you’ll find that those visits and conversations are worth much more to her than any store bought gift. So why not give her just that this Mother’s Day, your time? You can even go a step further, what about an “impromptu family get-together”? Get the entire family together and just spend some quality time swapping stories, updating the family and enjoying each other’s company. We are sure your mom will appreciate that.

2. A Home Cooked Meal

When it comes to gift giving, we often hear that “it’s the thought that counts”. Add a day’s worth of energy and effort and your mom will surely be appreciated. While everyday is an opportunity to treat your mother well, take Mother’s Day as a special occasion to shower your mom with love by spending the day preparing her favourite meal and catering to her needs. If you can, prepare a number of courses, set the table beautifully and give your mom a Mother’s Day meal she is sure to remember.

3. A Trip

Don’t fret just yet we are not suggesting a trip to Bora Bora, even though, if you can afford that, go right ahead (wink). Take a small trip that your mother has been longing for or that you haven’t done together in a while. It could be a trip to the beach, to visit a special place or even to church. Accompanying mom to church on Mother’s Day will show her, not only that you love her, but that you also have not forgotten your faith and how you were raised. Many mothers dread their children growing up and forgetting their values and how they were raised so taking that special trip with her for Mother’s Day will settle that fear.

4. A Personal Letter

Almost everyone’s greatest fear is losing their mother. Imagine losing her without telling her thanks for all the things she did for you, how her life impacted yours and the small things that make her truly special. Here’s another opportunity to do just that. Instead of scribbling “Love you” on a generic store bought card, write your mom a letter from the heart this Mother’s Day telling her all the things you should have told her over the years. There might be some tears but there will surely be a lot of appreciation for your honesty and gratitude.

5. Your Help

Want to make Mother’s Day really special for your mom, how about you help her to do some activity that she has been wanting to do for a while but needs help doing for example redecorating or cleaning out the garden. This is also some good mother/daughter time to catch up on all the things going on your life.

So, this Mother’s Day, whether it is executing an elaborate and well thought out plan or just sitting and talking to your mom for hours, it is very important that we show our moms just how important they are to us.

If all the armies in the world were commanded by mothers like you, they would all be trained in decimating the enemy’s hate with adorable smiles and warm hugs. Thanks for everything mom.  Unknown
